What the work involves
Dr Michaels Aibangbee is Executive Director of Edge Community Care Services Ltd (ECCS), a charity based in Jamisontown and endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient. ECCS provides therapeutic and psychosocial support alongside refugee, asylum-seeker and migrant communities in Western Sydney, together with practical help with food, basic needs and settling in.
The work starts from what communities already hold: languages, family and faith networks, leadership, enterprise, and first-hand knowledge of the systems people are navigating. ECCS builds on that knowledge, helps people find their way through services, and brings community voices to the people who make policy.
Under his leadership, ECCS works in partnership with government agencies, health providers and community organisations, drawing on community needs assessment and participatory research to shape what it offers.
